Visual appearance of the plant
Barley is a green plant, which grows up tall like a long grass. At the end of spring it forms a head of Barley which has tiny white flowers and very long whiskers. At the end of spring it dries off to a beautiful golden brown colour.
Usage on Glenvar
Barley has been grown on Glenvar since 1989. It has enabled an extension to our rotation and as a result reduced the disease burden of a purely wheat Lupin Rotation.
Today on average 12% of Glenvar's land is planted into Barley and 3000T are often produced. A mixture of feed and malting Barley is produced on Glenvar. |

Feed Barley in contrast is as it sounds-an animal feed and is sold predominantly in the domestic market place for use as direct animal feed or manufactured into pellets. |
